Early this month saw me take a weekend trip to Waterford’s famous Copper Coast geopark with the intention of capturing some of the beauty this part of Ireland provides.
Arriving late on Friday afternoon the weather unexpectedly took a turn for the worse, with high winds, rain and huge waves crashing onto the car park in Tramore. Quite something to see from the safety of your car!. A quick check of Accuweather showed that a mixed weekend was ahead. An early rise on Saturday morning and a look outside showed no relief in conditions overnight so it was a case of waiting and closely monitoring the hourly forecast. A forecast which seemed to change every 30 mins. As a result, I decided that instead of sitting around waiting that it was best to use the time to scout out the coast should the weather improve.
Finally, as luck would have it, a window of opportunity opened and I headed towards the nearest beach, Ballydowane. There was probably 1 hour where the rain held off and the grey clouds showed some level of detail. Just enough time to capture the photographs below – a study of the famous sea stack.
Landscape photography is often a patience game which sometimes pays off.
